Having a website Dress For Success
Often times I get people – usually a baby boomer- that asks why have a website at all. After all, they’ve done fine without it for the last 35 years!
They have a point. But in today’s highly digital environment, everything, and I mean every business, is prodded, poked, evaluated and reviewed online, then finally shopped.
And it doesn’t matter if you have a retail business, manufacturing business, non-profit or a service business. If you don’t have a web presence, you are virtually invisible.
I went to my local hardware store in South Minneapolis which has been there forever. But as I was walking in, I saw a truck that looked like it was twenty years old. It was so rusted out, I laughed out loud and thought it must have been a Flintstone car, that probably had the floor rusted away!
And the ironic thing about the truck was that it had a sign on it that said “I’m John (Example name) and I buy houses” Well John must not buy very expensive houses, because he can’t even afford a decent car. Unfortunately for John, the image that he projects is totally unprofessional and amateurish.
What message are you sending?
Similarly, the business that has a website that is non-existent or even a few years old, sends the same message to potential consumers.
Would you buy a suit form a salesperson in tatters? Or go to a dentist with terrible teeth? Of course not. By having a professionally designed website with the proper Search Engine Optimization, you are putting your best foot forward.
And we all know that you need to capture the website viewers interest within the first four seconds. Because if you don’t put your best online, your competition is right behind you.
So make a concerted effort to play and look like any of the big boys out there. As it is said, dress for success, as you are judged immediately by the way you look.
The same holds true for your website dress for success.
